Speaker Coach, Media Trainer
Cathy Sobocan is a highly-accredited media trainer and speaker coach with extensive on-air media experience. She has served as a news anchor, reporter, senior news writer and show host. Most notably she was a news anchor for WOR Radio in New York City; business news anchor for Wall Street Journal Radio; and reporter for CBS Radio News in NYC. In Canada, she was a senior news writer for CBC News Network.
In addition to training public and private sector executives and managers, Cathy has served as a speaker coach with TEDxToronto for six years. She has designed and delivered numerous broadcast journalism courses for Seneca College, Humber College and the University of Toronto. She specializes in Media Training, Public Speaking, Presentation Skills, Voice Improvement, Television Current Affairs and Radio Documentary. Her past clients include reporters, announcers, host’s and contributors who are currently seen and heard on CBC TV, CP24, CTV, Global Television, 680 News, BNN, eTalk, and other media outlets in Canada and the U.S.
Cathy has a Master’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Carleton University, a graduate diploma in Voice Coaching from York University, and a TESOL certificate from Humber College. She completed professional development at The Stratford Festival, Canada’s National Voice Intensive, The Second City, and various acting schools in Toronto and NYC. She’s a member of ACTRA, VASTA and RTDNA.
